It's ok I went into every lot and pressed save so there's no more missing objects messages thanks for all your help Dave - do you still play the original sims?

| I don't have TS1 installed at the moment - but going to do it in the future :o).
So your saying I should sell custom content then delete after? But I also get the message when going to some studio, vacation and magic town lots too - I don't know what could be causing that

| In such case you deleted something which is automatically added to all lots - e.g. some phone hacks.
Is there one folder to backup everything or is their several? Also one more thing do you know how to get rid of the 'missing objects' message whenever you decide to take a custom download out of the game?

| Userdata is for neigborhood 1, Userdata2 = neigborhood2 etc. Back up those you use in your games. Neigborhood 1 is the default one - you can see the number in the top-left corner of the neighborhood screen. Missing objects message appears on each lot containing references to deleted items - if you save such lot, you won't get the message the next time. But it's better to sell such items from the lot before deleting the items from game folders.

How much do you about backing up games Dave? Is backing up to USB stick good? Also do you know what the essential files to back up are? Sorry for picking your brains mate
| Dave: | 09/17/2013 08:04 PM |
| I backed up my TS1 saved games every day :o). USB stick is OK. I always made a copy of all Userdata folders with all subfolders. In case of a problem I restored the whole neighborhood (=Userdata x). Only once a month I backed up Downloads too.

Dave - i finally managed to get the unlimited studio visits in the game (oddly enough it had to go into `downloads` in subfolder `phone plugins`)
| Dave: | 09/17/2013 07:25 PM |
| It works in any Downloads subfolder in my case - if I remember it right I have no Phone plugins subfolder in my game.
Yes Dave, i have a legit shop bought version - the iff file is currently sitting in the downloads folder but isnt in the game when its started up
| Dave: | 09/16/2013 08:27 PM |
| How do you determine if the file is in the game? I think it would be better if you send me a pic of your Downloads folder, so I can see what's inside, together with some info (Windows version, which EP's you have etc).
Yes Dave, i did everything the read me text said - just to clarify the iff files for the below hacks need to go into `downloads`? is it possible they need to go somewhere else?

| The files should always go to the folder mentioned in readme file - in most cases it's Simsky subfolder in Downloads folder (they should work in just Downloads folder too, if there is not too many files). The filename can't be changed - global hacks won't work with a different name. BTW I expect you have legal version of the game - there are some cr*cked game versions where custom content doesn't work. The full path for placing most of my items on Windows XP is C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Downloads\Simsky .

Hi Dave - i recently put the stork baby service and unlimited superstar visits files into the downloads folder of The Sims but they work show in the game - do you have any advice to get them working?
| Dave: | 09/16/2013 03:50 PM |
| Hi, how many files do you have in Downloads? Sort the .iff files into subfolders in Downloads - the game may not load some of them if there are too many files in one folder. I expect you extracted .iff files from the archive and you have PC version of the game - many of my items don't work in Mac version of TS1. "Superstar visits" is a hack, not an object - it won't show in the buy mode list.

Hi Dave - Which folder do RAR. files go into?...
| Dave: | 09/12/2013 04:44 PM |
| RAR files are packed archives - you have to use e.g. WinRar or 7zip to unpack them first.
