the computer i use is a Windows ME so it doesn't have a task manager since it's an older computer =/

if i reinstall it will i lose all the houses and stuff?

You can use e.g. Process Explorer (from sysinternals.com) to check the CPU usage :o). I use this handy free tool on my W98 machine. You can also check your comp with Spybot (from spybot.info) if there's no malware on your comp.

If a background process is the reason of slowing down the game (e.g. the mentioned Nero 7 indexer), finding it and removing is much easier than reinstalling the comp.

You won't lose your houses and stuff if you backup all your Userdata folders, (together with stuff manually added to Downloads or Gamedata subfolders, if you downloaded anything). After reinstalling the game you would just replace the default folders (with names starting with Userdata) by your backups.

BTW if you are going to reinstall just the game, be sure to use Eraser (from the Superstar CD) after having the Userdata folders backed up (this tool removes game settings from the registry - without it the game may not work properly after reinstalling).

DESTROYER of WORLDS07/24/2007 01:34 PM
I`m so annoyed seeing that <thanks, mister!> everywhere! But that`s what i`m gonna say: that seethem2prog is my best upload here - I`ve created a spooky graveyard for my cray knowledgeasp-goth-sims. My friend-modder created some new deaths - how they do that mod sh*t? I can create goth meshes+skins+obj, not game overhauls. And... thanks.

Those "Thanks" messages are the only reward we (creators) are getting for the whole effort. I doubt a creator would continue in public releasing of new items without any positive feedback.

Creating new interactions is not so difficult as it seems to be. The most time-consuming part is testing them in all versions of the game (especially in case of global hacks). I'm a programmer, so from my point of view creating new objects or mods for the game is much easier than to write programs e.g. controlling chemicals production in the company I work for ;o).

You replied so quickly! That`s useful info for me. You`re the best!

Hi! Thanks for cool stuff!!! About that cheater`s SeeThem 2 options: many objects in "spawn" menu do not spawn... Why?! And many uknown options in this menu... I think not only me need your instructions! Place them somewhere. Thanks a lot from me and my friends!

 Hi Anny, thanks :o)

To the debug mode secret menu:
As written in the manual, this game mode has been set up by the game authors and ST2 just allows you to enter / quit it. There are thousands of options in the game when clicking on a Sim / on an object with Shift. Some of them can kill your Sims or make the lot unplayable, so don't save the game if you don't know what happened.

To the spawning submenu: many of the spawned items are invisible. They are so called controllers - they control how your Sims / objects behave. Some of them control your Sims disease state / life cycle / breaking of all objects etc.

Behavior of some of the spawned items is described at various sites, some of them haven't been described yet. Maxis provides no documentation, so the only way is to read the BHAV code of the hidden interactions. If I have more time in the future, I can describe behavior of some of the items in the "TS2 Help" section (there is already written how to fix the lot after playing with some of the "dangerous" debug mode features).

Maria -> Here are detailed instructions how to check your system resources. Before launching the game, press Ctrl + Alt + Del and choose Task Manager from the menu. Click on the Processes tab and check if there is not a process consuming too much resources (more than 70%). If you find one, just send me its name and I would write you if you can safely remove such process.

 Dave:07/23/2007 01:56 PM
BTW many players had to remove the indexing service of Nero 7 - it consumed 100% of system resources ;o).

sorry i didn't mean stars i meant the body, charisma, creativity, etc. bars, then i'll have to redo them all again. yeah there is no downloads because i play this game on a computer with no internet service. what is a buggy cr*ck?

 Dave (updated):07/23/2007 12:52 AM
Your Sims wouldn't lose their skill points - I am sure, I often use selling them to increase their needs levels when testing new items (and I've just tested that even the fame score survives the Sims "selling"). But you don't have to do this if the same problem is on all the lots - do the system tests I mentioned below.

You use a cr*ck if you installed the game from a p*rated (burned) CD. Some cr*cks allow you to play the game without the need of having the CD in the drive. But some of them are buggy - causing the game to crash randomly etc.

It's after midnight here and I go to work early in the morning, so I have to go to bed now :o).

It is on all the lots i believe. but on the computer all i have is regular sims, sims superstar and sims double deluxe.

if i delete my people. then i won't have my three stars anymore. is there any way to delete the sims without removing the stars? sorry for all the questions.

 Dave:07/22/2007 11:50 PM
Regular Sims and Sims Double Deluxe? These game versions shouldn't be installed together. BTW there is a buggy cr*ck for Superstar (hope you don't use cr*cks).

I am not sure if resetting the Sims by deleting them removes their fame score - I think not (it resets just their running interactions, some attributes and needs levels). There are many hacks for adjusting the fame score back - it is possible I will also create one for Simsky.

But if it happens on all the lots, you don't have to reset the Sims. Are you sure there really is no global / phone hack in your game? Haven't you added anything to Downloads?

You can also try this - when the problem starts, pause the game, minimize it to tray (by pressing Alt + Tab) and check the resources of your computer - the free memory, free disc space and used % of proccessor time. If no free resources are available, it would be the reason. Switch back to the game by clicking on its name in the tray then.

but i didn't download any thing and there isn't any gardners.

Also, it didn't start right after installing Superstar, it just started doing it out of nowhere. then every once in a while it will go back to normal but then it will go back to the problem. Any ideas?

Does this happen on all lots or just on only one? If only one lot is affected, try to find if there is a pet not being able to find the path from the lot or a stuck Sim.

You can try to "sell" all the Sims in the family, together with all the pets and neighbors, if there are any on the lot - it's better to back up your Userdata folders first. Then go on the affected lot, pause the game, go to Buy mode, press Ctrl + Shift + C, enter move_objects on - from this moment on you can delete anything on the lot, so be careful. Click on each Sim, move him with the mouse (to be sure that just the Sim and nothing else is selected) and delete the Sim by pressing Delete. Do the same for all Sims and pets on the lot. When all Sims are deleted, disable the cheat (press Ctrl + Shift + C and enter move_objects off) and switch to Live mode. Click on the small icons representing your Sims in the family panel - each Sim appears on the lot, with all Needs bars on the green level. Unpause and check if this helped.

BTW if there are some background processes running on the computer together with the game, it also could be the reason (e.g. a scheduled antivirus test).

Everytime I try to play my Sims Superstar game during live mode, the time and my sims move slow. Just like how they move slow right before your computer freezes. I don't know how to make it go away and play normally.

 Dave:07/22/2007 11:09 PM
This behavior is usually caused by a bad object or global hack. Try to remember when this behavior started and remove downloads added on that day from the game folder.

If this started right after installing Superstar and all lots are affected, it can be caused by an item requiring Unleashed to be the last EP, without Superstar - especially obsolete phone or other global hacks. Try to remove them from the game folder.

This can also happen if there's a gardener on the lot, trying to cover in the hole dug by a dog - look at the "TS1 Help" section for more details.
